Clinical and Financial Qualification for Long Term Care

We would get some clinical information from the PCP to make sure they qualified for long term care first. Once that is approved we would look at financials. There are several ways to qualify someone financially. We have a dedicated professional Medicaid specialist who would take the financial information and see if your loved one qualified to live at the center under Maryland Medicaid. If they did not, we could go the “spend down” route which is private pay up front with the resources they have in the bank, etc until they qualified. If it’s more of a monthly income that does not qualify them, we would then go straight private pay for their stay.

Respite Care and Financial Options

We do also offer Respite care for short periods of time which is also private pay for the duration of their stay. I would love to invite you in for a tour of the center and we could give you more pricing information when you speak to the Business office manager.

On-Site Therapy and Medical Services

We provide physical, occupational and speech therapy on-site with CommuniCare therapists. This means if your loved one is picked up by therapy, they will see the same therapist each visit allowing them both to learn each other which in turn we have found are better for the residents and their success during their sessions. We provide wound care consults, psych consults and traditional medicine practice. The facility has gna’s, LPNs, RNs, and Medical Directors. Westminster provides one of the areas only Secured Memory Care Units as well.

Safety Measures and Telehealth Visits

For their safety, if any resident is an elopement risk or flight risk we can offer wander guards that alarm when they try to exit the center. Westminster provides telehealth visits on site. We do not provide transportation. Typically, insurances will cover the cost or large portion of the cost of transportation and we also allow families to take residents to their appts.

Dining Options and Dietary Accommodations

Westminster does provide breakfast, lunch and dinner in their main dining areas daily. They also receive additional menu options if they do not want what is on the menu or they may eat in their rooms if they choose not to participate in the main dining areas. Families are able to bring in extra snacks, drinks appropriate to their diets and/or meals if they would like to have a meal with their loved one.

Room Amenities and Vaccinations

We do not offer refrigerators or microwaves or coffee pots in the rooms per state regulation and safety reasons. All of our residents are offered the COVID vaccinations and FLU vaccinations yearly.

Communication and Visitation Policies

We provide every resident and their families with the compliance hotline number upon admission. Typically, complaints can find resolutions internally with the Director of Nursing and Executive Director. Upon admission, the Admissions Director will verify contact information, emergency contacts, power of attorneys, etc to ensure accuracy and legalities. Those are updated in our system and you can be notified of important updates, medical questions, capacity concerns, or meetings. Residents are also allowed to have ipads, laptops or cell phones to communicate. The facility is not allowed to have pet visitors unless they have up to date shot records submitted to the front desk prior. Visiting hours are typically between 8a-8p daily and pets may visit between those hours on a leash and where appropriate.
