Types of Professionals and Training
DZ – In our Assisted Living building, we have 13 caregivers (RN, LPN), housekeeping, maintenance, and a full-time Activities Director. All employees must undergo 40 hours of online training on various topics before they can work "on the floor." Additionally, our caregivers undergo an extra 16 hours of online and in-person training before they are authorized to dispense medications.Safety and Well-being Measures
DZ – The safety of our residents is one of our primary goals, as evidenced by our 5-star rating and 10 years of zero deficiencies on our annual state audit. Every resident has a medical alert pendant or bracelet that rings our nurse station, as well as a pull cord in each bathroom. We perform monthly vital checks on all our residents.Support for Transition into the Community
DZ – Absolutely. Before any new resident moves in, our Director of Health Services (Nurse Bob) conducts an assessment to ensure they are suitable for the level of care we provide. Upon move-in, we offer "escort services" for their first 3 days, escorting them from their apartment to meals 3 times a day and introducing them to their new neighbors.Dining Experience
DZ – The food is good and is served in our dining room 3 times a day. I’ve attached a sample menu. Residents also have the option to eat meals in their room, as we will prepare to-go meals as well. Once a month, to celebrate resident birthdays, the residents choose the lunch menu. That happens to be today, and they are having steak and potatoes.Complaint and Feedback Process
DZ – There are several ways residents can provide feedback – directly to their caregiver, to myself, our Housing Director, or our Director of Health Services. We also have a suggestion box in our lobby for anonymous feedback if they prefer. Additionally, we hold a monthly resident meeting where updates are provided and feedback is solicited. Finally, we have posters throughout our community with the name and contact information for the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman (Beth Burke for Polk County).Communication with Residents' Families
DZ – In addition to regular family care conferences, our nursing staff maintains close communication with family members whenever a resident experiences a change in medication, falls, or has new medical needs. We have a daily "stand-up" meeting with all disciplines, ensuring staff are aligned regarding residents' care and concerns.Short-Term and Respite Stays
DZ – Yes, we offer short-term or respite stays. The rate is $250/day with a minimum 2-week stay. Often, residents who have a respite stay end up converting to full-time residents in our community.Pet-Friendly Community
