Community Details
This detailed information was received through an email from the Community Relations Director at Vancouver Orchards Retirement Community via email on 2024-04-22.
Departments
Here at Vancouver, you will see a number of departments. This is inclusive of care staff, dining, housekeeping, maintenance, business office staff, and managers. Any new hire undergoes an orientation process that will walk the person through a number of things (job responsibilities and duties, health services fit testing, tour of the building with the maintenance director to show where emergency shut off for certain things are, etc). Care staff specifically also have to complete credited trainings/classes. All staff have to undergo a background check. Once someone is on the floor, they will shadow another staff member for a certain amount of time before being on their own.
Safety Measures
There are a number of safety measures in place. Is there something specific you are thinking of? I will give some examples below.
- All apartments have emergency call boxes equipped in them.
- Residents have the option to have a pendent- this is how you can call care staff when you need cares.
- There is a sign in process at the front desk so that we know who is coming in and out of the community.
- All side exit doors are locked, and the front door is locked after hours.
- All staff will receive a background check and care staff specifically will get fingerprints.
- An emergency binder is available for staff to direct them on that particular emergency.
Follow-ups and Family Communication
I typically like to follow up with families after the first night and about a week later to see what questions there may be and see how they are settling. Sometimes it is helpful to walk around the community again to remind where certain activities are, etc. In an assisted living case, residents may be receiving assistance from a care staff and will have a care plan that will support them at this stage that they are at. My community here is intimate and comfortable, so most find it very easy to navigate.
Transportation
Yes, we offer rides to doctor appointments and rides that are activity related (going to the grocery store, going to a restaurant).
Dining
All residents receive 3 meals a day. The dining room is on the main floor and open from 7am to 6:30pm. Every week you will typically see daily specials as well as a few alternative options.
Complaints
Complaints are directed to the Executive Director, Debbie.
Costs
Cost can differ greatly based off what someone might be looking for or needing. For example, one person may want a studio and be independent, whereas another may want a 2 bedroom and needs assisted living care. I always encourage people to come in for a visit so we can talk more in depth about what needs/wants are so that I can give you a more accurate depiction on what you would be looking at cost-wise. I can give you the starting costs! A studio will start at $2795. If care is needed, the first level of care will start at $625.
Family Involvement
Families that are listed as an emergency contact and or POA (Power of Attorney) can call in and get updates on their loved one or will receive a call in the case of medical event, change in condition, etc. A designated POA would be the one signing a care plan, for example if the resident was unable, so families are aware of what's being provided, and costs associated with that.
Respite Stays
Our community at this time cannot support respite stays.
Pets
Yes, we are pet friendly. There is a one-time $500 pet fee and policy that a resident would sign upon move in. We also would need pet records.
Waitlist
Yes, we do currently have a waitlist. This is primarily for studio apartments and the cottages.
Vaccinations
No, a resident would need to visit their PCP for vaccinations.
Community Support
Yes, we can support residents from Independent to end of life. We have 3 parts to our community:
- Cottages: True IL living setting that is parallel along a community feel. You a have access to dining and activities.
- Main Building: Independent and Assisted Living options. We have a floating license here, which means you could move into an apartment independently and if and when care was needed, you stay right where you are and add care on by just changing your contract. No move or transfer needed.
- Memory Care: Secured area of the community for the safety of those residents.
