Overview of Staff and Training
We employ a variety of professionals, however on our care team strictly we employ Certified Nursing Assistants and Certified Medication Aides. Each individual undergoes a state regulated training program prior to hire. Upon hire, each individual attends a full classroom day of training regarding our values, missions, and expectations. They complete several online courses and then are able to begin working alongside another team member. They go through hands-on training for at least 3 days, and then are reviewed to ensure they are meeting expectations. We also employ LPNs, Serv-Safe Certified Culinary staff, Certified Dementia Practitioners, and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Each individual goes through a similar training process consistent with the care staff, however focused on their particular area of expertise.
Safety and Well-being of Residents
The community has an emergency preparedness plan to guide staff and leaders on how to respond during an emergency situation. We conduct drills throughout the year to ensure staff and residents are aware of these emergency procedures. We utilize a pendant and emergency pull cord program that allows our leaders to be aware of what is taking place in the community even when they are not onsite, and ensures that there is continuous communication to the front line staff regarding resident needs and/or needs for emergent help. The pendant program is monitored by our Director of Wellness and Executive Director daily to ensure we continue to meet our expected response times, and follow-up on any concerns that may arise as well as random audits to ensure resident needs are being met when call lights are answered. Residents are assessed at time of move-in, after 30 days, and every 6 months or as needed, to determine their baseline functionality and what services the community should be providing. Residents are encouraged to participate in community events and community dining, as well as when assessed for greater need for supervision, the staff provide that supervision to reduce any additional at-risk incidents. Our Director of Wellness is available to our team 24/7 as is our partnered physician group to ensure that we are able to reduce the need for transfer to the hospital, and can continue to treat appropriate clinical concerns in house.
Transition into the Community
This varies based on the resident, their family and their preferences. We do offer a resident ambassador program, which includes partnering our newer residents with a resident who has lived at the community and is able to invite them to meals, stop by and check-in on our newer residents, as well as encourage to participate in activities. Additionally, the community assigns a “Spark Ambassador”, which is a member of the leadership team to continue to check-in with the resident for the first 7 days and at least weekly thereafter. For the first week, the entire leadership team will be introducing themselves, and continuing to check on the resident regarding their specific departments. Should the resident or family desire more check-ins in the beginning, that is also an option. Finally, we also host a monthly “Housewarming” party that our newer residents are invited to as well as their families to get to know each other, other residents, and the leadership team, even better.
