Overview of the Senior Living Community

This senior living community is a skilled nursing facility that offers long-term care and skilled nursing services. It is not an assisted living facility but rather a place that provides a higher level of medical care, akin to a step down from hospital care, for those who cannot yet return home but no longer need to be in a hospital.

Respite Care

The community offers respite care services, allowing for short-term stays of around five to seven days to provide relief for family caregivers.

Move-In Assistance

Move-in assistance is provided by the community's social worker, with families typically helping with the move. The facility is furnished, and residents are encouraged to bring personal items for their comfort.

Pet Policy

Pets are not allowed to live in the facility, but pet therapy sessions are available, and there is a process for pets to visit residents.

Dining Experience

Residents are served three meals a day with set menus and alternate options. The staff takes note of dietary preferences, allergies, and any special requirements to ensure personalized meal plans.

Safety and Security Measures

The facility employs various safety measures such as keeping beds in the lowest position suitable for the resident, using turn rails and scoop mattresses for added safety, providing non-skid socks, and utilizing gate belts for transfers. There are no pendant systems as the facility has 24-hour nursing and CNA staff.

Handling Complaints

Residents can report complaints to their assigned 'guardian angel' who will escalate the issue to the administrator and the relevant department.

Communication with Families

The staff communicates any changes in a resident's condition or care plan to the responsible party. The facility also has a registered dietitian who communicates with families regarding dietary concerns.

Transportation Services

Contracted transportation services are available for residents to attend appointments or outings. Vans from a professional transportation company are used, and a CNA may accompany residents if necessary.

Waitlist Status

At the time of the conversation, the community did not have a waitlist for new residents.

Staffing and Training

The staff includes LPNs, RNs, CNAs, and a treatment nurse, all of whom receive ongoing training in various areas such as infection control and any new guidelines from CMS, CDC, or state and federal regulations.
