Do you guys currently have a waitlist?
Yes, we are 100% full, but that can change quickly. We are taking a refundable deposit of $1000 to hold a room.
Could you provide an overview of the types of professionals on your staff and the training they undergo at your facility?
Our Executive Director has been with us for 21 years, starting as an activity director, then business manager, and moving on to the Director position about 8 years ago. She undergoes annual training to keep her license current. Our RN has been here for 20 years, starting as a caregiver, then obtaining her degree and taking over the nursing position when the original nurse left. She also completes annual training to maintain her license. We train med techs and caregivers in-house. In assisted living, they are not required to be CNA’s, and honestly, we can’t pay them what hospitals and nursing homes pay. Our activity director does annual training to keep up with new trends.
Could you tell me about the measures you have in place to ensure the safety and well-being of your residents?
Our residents undergo an assessment before moving in to help establish what care they might need. Then, the staff is given notes to ensure they are aware if a person needs help with bathing, dressing, etc. We also conduct a mini mental status exam during the assessment to have a baseline of residents' cognitive status. Depending on a resident's needs, we check on them throughout the day and evening, including toileting schedules or just making sure they don’t need anything. One thing about Oakleaf is that we have many staff members who have been here for 5 years or longer, making it easy for residents and family members to get to know who is taking care of their loved one. We try very hard to keep the same med tech on the same floor and the same PCA’s as well. This helps your loved one adjust, knowing that Tiffany is the person who’ll be coming in each morning to get them up. Our level of care can best be understood by looking at our reviews on Google.
Do you offer any resources or support services to aid residents' transition into the community?
We have an ambassador program where other residents help new ones get acclimated to the community. The activity director spends a good amount of time with folks to get them to activities and ensure they are engaged, and the caregivers will help with this, as well.
Are residents able to get Covid vaccination and flu vaccinations in the community?
We do annual flu vaccinations, usually in October, and when they did the new covid booster, we did offer it here, but not in some time.
Are residents able to age in place?
Our goal is for residents to age in place. This can’t always happen, but many of our residents pass away here on hospice. There are just certain things we cannot do in assisted living, so it is a case-by-case basis.
