Overview of Staff and Training
At Canterfield, we have several levels of staff ranging from receptionists to nurses. Each member of our staff undergoes an 8-hour dementia training course annually, provided by our Executive Director, who is a nurse and Certified Dementia Practitioner. This training is also open to the public on a monthly basis.Measures for Ensuring Resident Safety and Well-being
We follow several measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents:- Monthly fire drills on each shift, conducted quarterly per state regulations.
- A secured memory care unit with locked coded doors for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's.
- Quarterly care plan meetings with residents and/or families to ensure proper communication of residents' needs.
- Our front doors are locked at sunset every night.
- No solicitors are allowed up to residents' apartments, and all visitors must check in and sign in at the front receptionist.
Resources for Transitioning Residents
All of our staff introduce themselves to new residents within the first few weeks, doing so separately to avoid overwhelming the residents. We inform everyone that it may take between a week to 90 days for someone to get fully acclimated to a new apartment and schedules.Dining Experience
We provide three hot meals per day along with fresh fruit available at all times. We offer a special menu each day and an "always available" menu for those who prefer something different than the daily special. Memory care residents receive prepared snacks three times a day at 10am, 2pm, and 7pm.Process for Addressing Complaints or Issues
All managers have an open-door policy and assist with anything needed in the community. Residents can approach managers to voice complaints. We also hold a monthly resident council meeting on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am, where residents may ask questions, seek clarification, or voice concerns.Communication Policy with Residents' Families
We conduct quarterly care plan meetings regarding residents' needs and ADLs. Our Executive Director sends out monthly emails to families and residents with updates, events, and other community news. The clinical team contacts families (POA) if there are issues such as falls, changes in health, antibiotics, medication changes, etc.Short-term or Respite Stays
We offer respite stays with a minimum duration of 30 days and a maximum of 6 weeks. The cost of respite varies depending on whether it is for memory care or not.Covid and Flu Vaccinations
Yes, residents are able to receive Covid and flu vaccinations within the community.Aging in Place
Yes, residents are able to age in place as long as we remain compliant with state guidelines and requirements. We currently have studio apartments available on the independent/assisted living side, but our one-bedroom apartments and memory care wing have waiting lists. For pricing & availability call (866) 204-9238
