Staff Overview and Training
We have a variety of Personal Care Aides, CNAs, Med Techs, and LPNs on staff. Given we are a Personal Care community we are not required by the state to have nurses 24/7, but we are fortunate to be staffed to always have a nurse on duty. We are also fully staffed, so we do not have any agency staff in the building. New care staff are paired with veteran staff until they learn the role and tasks involved. There are monthly on-line trainings for all staff as well as monthly in-services on different topics.
Resident Safety and Well-being
From 8am to 8pm, there is a receptionist stationed at the front desk. All visitors must check in and out, stating who they are and there to see. From 8pm to 8am, the front door is locked and visitors must be let in by a staff person. Personal Care residents must sign in and out of the community and provide a contact when leaving the building. Memory Care residents reside on a secured floor. All exits, entry ways, stairwells, and elevators are locked, coded and alarmed. Additionally all Personal Care residents are provided a portable call bell and rounds are frequently done on both Personal Care and Memory Care.
Transition Support Services
All new residents are met by department heads and the activities staff spends time with new residents to get to know their likes, dislikes, and things we can do to assist in their transition. Additionally, we have a Clinical Social Worker 1 – 2 days/week who can meet with residents and provide talk therapy.
Transportation Services
We mainly only provide transportation for planned activities. With notice we can provide transportation, but there is an additional cost associated both for staffing and mileage. We try to set all of our residents up with Bucks County Transportation which can be used for appointments within Bucks County for a low cost. Some resident also have CCT.
Dining Experience
All residents eat in our dining rooms. Personal Care and Memory Care residents have separate dining rooms. Seating is assigned and there is one hot option offered at each meal, but we do have an always alternative menu if a resident doesn’t like what is being offered at a particular meal. Meals are prepared in-house and if a resident has any dietary restrictions or if meals have to be prepared in a particular manner we can accommodate that. If a resident is ill, we can provide a sick tray to their rooms.
Resident Complaints and Issues
Residents will get to know all of the departments heads. Depending on the concern, they should seek out the head of the department who would handle the concern. Allegria is not a large community. As long as the concern is voiced it should get to the right person. Many folks start with talking with our receptionist. If the concern needs to be escalated, our Executive Director is also available to listen.
Communication with Families
We will only communicate with those listed as emergency contacts. Typically, there is a care conference 30 days after a new residents moves-in then annually unless a resident has a significant change or concern. Nursing will also call in the event of an emergency. With that said, family (if listed) is always welcome to call and check in with nursing for an update.
Short-term or Respite Stays
There is a minimum of 2 weeks required for respite. Personal Care is $150/day and Memory Care is $175/day. Respites can stay for 2 months. This is an all-inclusive rate.
Pet-Friendly Community
We are pet-friendly community. If a resident wants to bring a cat or dog, they must be able to care for the animal independently or have someone who can visit regularly to care for the pet. These residents must also reside in a private room. We do not currently have cats or dogs. We do have community birds and fish and I have one resident with a turtle.
Waitlist Information
We have a waitlist for private rooms on both Personal Care and Memory Care, but we do have shared accommodations available for men and women on both units.
Vaccinations
We offer flu and COVID vaccines once annually. We do not offer them throughout the year.
Aging in Place
We do our best to allow residents to age in place. There are instances when we need to discuss moving a resident to a long-term care nursing home. For example, if resident becomes bed bound, but is not end of life and/or eligible for hospice care. If there is an opportunity to bring in additional home care or hospice we will ask families to consider it because moving folks from one place to another can be so taxing physically and mentally. I apologize, it’s not easy to sugar coat some aspects of the community.
